Lecture Notes on Numerical Methods for Hyperbolic Equations: Short Course Book

portada

This volume contains the lecture notes of the Short Course on Numerical Methods for Hyperbolic Equations held in the Faculty of Mathematics, University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, from 2nd to 4th July 2011. The course was organized in recognition of Prof. Eleuterio Toro’s contribution to education and training on numerical methods for partial differential equations and was delivered prior to the International Conference on Numerical Methods for Hyperbolic Equations: Theory and Applications, to honour Professor Toro in the month of his 65th birthday.

The course was designed and taught by renowned academics, in both the theoretical and applied fields. The syllabus is closely related to the research topics of the main event and was especially aimed at postgraduate students. The topics presented in this volume are closely connected to relevant industrial applications, which is particularly emphasised in the lecture by Prof. James Glimm. In addition, the salient properties of hyperbolic equations are introduced by Prof. Smadar Karni and numerical methodologies are presented by Prof. Remi Abgrall, Prof. Eleuterio Toro and Prof. Michael Dumbser.
